What I’m Talking About:
It’s a wonderful thing when the second book in a series is better than the first. Instead of the first being a fluke or a one-off, the author knows her characters, her setting, and the peripherals that will make or break believability. Despite being a slower burn than might be expected, In the Weeds, was just a good read.
The jacket description almost does a disservice to Lovelight Farms resident farmer Beckett Porter. Beckett is not just a grumpy, hot, tatted-up guy out sweating in the fields. He has a kind and sensitive soul that is finessed in Borison’s writing style. He doesn’t like crowds so it’s natural for him to be comfortable in wide open spaces. He doesn’t like to be pushed, so he doesn’t push other people. He guards his heart, but when he gives it, it’s all of it. No one is surprised that cats follow him around or sit on his shoulders.
Evelyn St. James is on the high end of social influencers with a brand and an income. She is big business. Lovelight Farms wins a social media contest, one they are excited about because it will bring much needed attention to the Christmas Tree and working farm. What Evelyn finds at Lovelight Farms isn’t just a reunion with Beckett, a one-night stand she shared months ago, but a peace and healing she’s been trying to find for a long time in a relentless business that only cares about what you do next and how quickly you can do it. Beckett, in his slow, methodical way, basically the antithesis of her regular life, allows her the time and space she needs to get there. Their journey together is lovely, funny, and sweet. I can’t wait to read number three, Mixed Signals.

About the Book:
Evelyn St. James isn’t the kind of woman you forget. Beckett Porter certainly hasn’t. One incredible weekend in Maine, and he’s officially a man distracted. He’s not unfamiliar with hot and heavy flings, but Evie wove some sort of magic over him during their tumble in the sheets. He can’t stop thinking about her laugh. Her hand pressed flat against his chest. Her smiling mouth at his neck.
So when she suddenly appears on his farm as part of a social media contest, he is…confused. He had no idea that the sweet and sexy woman he met at a bar is actually a global phenomenon. When Evie disappears again, Beckett resolves to finally move on.
But Evie, who has been feeling disconnected from her work and increasingly dissatisfied with life online, is trying to find her way back to something real. She returns to the last place she was happy: Lovelight Farms and the tiny town of Inglewild. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the hot farmer she spent two incredible nights with.
