July 4th: What is your favorite holiday and what do you do to celebrate?
My favorite holiday has varied over the years. When I was little up until I had my own young kids, Christmas was always my favorite. It is a special time, and I loved the cozy, winter feel, the magic of the holiday, the carols, the decorations, the gift giving.
Another favorite for many, many years was spending the 4th of July in Michigan with my family. We’d have a big family reunion at my parents’ home, with the cousins and their kids. We’d swim and boat, eat and drink. The town my parents live in has a very robust 4th celebration and it was tradition. But we haven’t been able to go for several years now due to the kids’ schedules.
I’d say now my favorite is Thanksgiving. Typically we have off five days in a row to relax and do whatever. My mother-in-law hosts and cooks an awesome turkey (and her stuffing is the best). I love that the holiday is on a Thursday and then we still have three days after! It’s a time to spend with family and enjoy being together.
