What I’m Talking About:

Maelstrom is the fourth and final book in the ongoing story about alien life on and the human colonization of the distant planet of Sajave. The series is best when read in order. Picking up where the third book leaves off, the story follows U.S. President Jodane’s daughter, Sandy, as she tries to stay drug-free while distancing herself from her corrupt mother. Sandy is kidnapped by the C-Force commander, Quint, in hopes that she’ll provide the evidence needed to take down Jodane.

Maelstrom is another solid novella in the series, providing a sexy standalone romance while wrapping up the overall series plotlines. Without the need for world building or extensive character development, the story flows quickly and is filled with action from the start. The romance between Sandy and Quint is quick and a bit underdeveloped, but works for the story. Each is pleasantly surprised that the other isn’t the person they were lead to believe. And although Quint puts of a wall for professional reasons, he can’t fight is attraction and gives in to his desires quickly. The development of President Jodane as the true villain is capped off with some reveals of her horrendous acts.

I continued to enjoy the alien sand plot, and we did witness some of its boldest actions yet. With that said, there is little time spent with the sand and learning its secrets this time around. Sandy does quickly bond with it, but the focus is more on stopping the human development and the President.

In the end, Maelstrom is an exciting tale that wraps up the series with a beautiful bow. I love the epilogue which gives readers insight to the alien life on Sajave.

My Rating: B

About the Book:

She desires to be loved. But that’s the one thing he can’t give her.

All Sandy Jodane ever wanted was to belong, to be loved. Instead, she’s become a pawn to be used and discarded by her empire-building politician mother. After turning to stardust to deaden the pain of rejection, she finds the strength to beat her addiction and live life on her own terms. But just as she makes a clean break, she finds herself on a desolate alien planet, taken into custody by a powerful cyborg determined to break her and get the information he needs.

A failed marriage proved to cyborg Quint Stroud that duty and love don’t mix so he’s dedicated himself to C-Force, fighting for justice in the galaxy. He’s now facing the toughest assignment of his career: protecting the life of a unique intelligent alien species on planet Sajave from a corrupt Earth president who would destroy it. Saving the alien will require help from an insider—the president’s complicit, reprobate daughter. He vows to do whatever it takes to coerce her cooperation.

But nothing is as it seems. Quint discovers the gutsy, vulnerable woman needs his protection as much as the alien does, and Sandy suspects Quint’s fierce, almost robotic appearance and manner hide a wounded heart. But when they team up in a last-ditch effort to save the alien, they’ll unleash a maelstrom of vengeance that could destroy their future or even their lives.

Maelstrom is the exciting, tempestuous final book in the Cyborg Force series.
