Featured Author Q and A:
Can you tell us a little bit about your writing: What genres do you write? Do you prefer to write one genre over another?
So far, I write paranormal romance, romantic women’s fiction, romantic suspense, romantic paranormal mystery, and holiday romance. I enjoy writing in several different genres, and I don’t think I prefer any over any other. It depends on which story is calling to me and what I’m interested in writing at the moment. I’m the same way with reading. I read in lots of genres depending on my mood and what catches my interest.
What is your newest/upcoming release? Tell us about the book and series.
Christmas Promise just came out in November. It is part of a multi-author holiday romance series—Soul Sisters at Cedar Mountain Lodge. This will be my last installment in the series. I have loved writing about Maddie, a widow who took in four foster daughters the Christmas after losing her child and husband in a terrible accident. Maddie ends up adopting the girls, and they become a tight-knit family of Soul Sisters—hence the series name! Each of the series authors writes one character in the series. So I write the mom’s journey, and other authors write each of the sisters. I’ve loved collaborating with the other authors to intertwine our stories, and I’ve loved exploring Maddie’s transition from grieving widow to loving matriarch and her opportunity to have a second chance at love along the way.
I’m planning for my next release to be in my Fallen Bloodlines series, which is paranormal romance and features vampires, shifters, witches, fallen angels, and more! This will be the third book in the series, and I’m looking forward to readers finally getting answers to questions raised in the first two books of the trilogy.
What is your favorite thing about the Coastal Magic Convention?
My favorite thing about Coastal Magic is definitely the readers! I love getting to meet and hang out with the people that I meet online in the Coastal Magic Reading Challenge. I enjoy the opportunity to participate in panels, but my fave part is the times when we’re just hanging out playing games or chatting together in the bar or the lobby. And the murder mystery party is always a great time!
What inspired you to write your first book?
I have wanted to be a writer from a very young age, but I didn’t pursue publishing until I’d written my first full-lenth novel, Diary of a Single Wedding Planner. Having been in the wedding & event industry for years, I was always fascinated by the window we as planners get into other people’s lives. You learn so much about families, friendships, love, and romance planning weddings! Having gone through a divorce while in that career, I could relate to the concept of a wedding planner who wanted desperately to believe in fairy tale love and was surrounded by other people’s love stories every day, yet was unable to find her own Prince Charming. So I created a wedding planner character who journals her experiences in her diary as she encounters crazy bridezillas, inspiring true love, and ridiculous blind dates—all in search of her own Happily Ever After.
Do you use real or fictional locations in your stories? What kind of research do you do for the setting?
I use both! I love incorporating real landmarks and real places in my books so that people who may have visited those locations can relate and feel like the setting is familiar. I also like using real places so I can see it more clearly in my mind as I’m writing. But I also use fictional locations so I can change geography, businesses, and distances to fit what I need for the story. For instance, I have three series set in the fictional small town of Cedar Creek, which is based on the actual town of Clermont in Central Florida. When I first moved to Clermont in ’92, it was a small town neatly contained in a small area and surrounded by beautiful lakes and tree-covered hills. In the years since then, its growth and development have exploded and expanded greatly. By creating Cedar Creek to use in place of Clermont, I can go back to that small town feel, and I can also move around hills, lakes, and surrounding towns to make it easier to construct the story the way I want to.
Ocean or Lake? Ocean

Vampire Born by Violet Howe
Vampire by birth. Human by choice. Until death revived his curse.
Born of an ancient, cursed bloodline, Nick has always loathed the monster inside him, but he was never so determined to be human as when he met his true love, Aria. A deal with darkness granted Nick what he longed for most—a life as a mortal husband and father.
Aria worked hard to trust herself and others after escaping an abusive relationship. When she met Nick, his steadfast love and patience slowly convinced her that she and her young daughter could finally have their happily ever after.
Together, Nick and Aria have found peace and become their best version of themselves. But when an early morning tragedy returns Nick to his vampiric state, the future of their family is in jeopardy.
As they struggle to find a path forward and come to terms with the past, neither of them realize much darker forces are at play. Can their love withstand the trials they face? Or is their relationship doomed to end in heartache?
