Kate Moseman
Today I’m happy to welcome Kate Moseman to the blog. She’s answering a few questions and telling us more about her books. Please help me welcome Kate!
Featured Author Q and A:
Can you tell us a little bit about your writing: What genres do you write? Do you prefer to write one genre over another?
I like to say that I write witchy books about women discovering that life is magical. A reader once said I write about “Nice people doing mostly nice things,” which is an adorable way of describing my books. I write paranormal romantic comedy, cozy urban fantasy, and paranormal women’s fiction, but what all of my books have in common is humor, hope, and magic.
What is your newest/upcoming release? Tell us about the book and series.
My newest release is Flames and Frying Pans, the final volume in the West Side Witches series, which begins with Spells and Sandwiches. West Side Witches is a cozy urban fantasy series set in New York, featuring a magical middle-aged chef who must face the truth of her hidden magical powers while dealing with vampires, witches, and the fae. Oh, and she has a hilarious mini poodle!
What inspired you to write your current book/series?
I was inspired to write this series by a whirlwind trip to New York City in 2019. I stayed in the Upper West Side, and I knew instantly that I had to write an urban fantasy set right there.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
I was born and raised in Florida, and would never want to leave—but if I were rich as Croesus, I’d have a beautiful pre-war apartment in the Upper West Side, and another apartment in the heart of Paris.
Do you have any pets? Please tell us about them.
I have a ridiculous mini poodle named Ringo, who was 100% the inspiration for Jester, the poodle in the West Side Witches series. He is an angel and a caution, who will put literally anything in his mouth and refuse to let it go.
Do you use real or fictional locations in your stories? What kind of research do you do for the setting?
Almost all of my locations are fictionalized versions of real places. West Side Witches is set in New York, of course; and Midlife Elementals, my series of cozy, witchy women’s fiction with romance, is set in “Sparkle Beach,” which is a magical version of Daytona Beach. When you come to Coastal Magic Con, you can actually visit multiple locations from that series!
CMCon Quickies:
Long weekend or extended stay vacation? Extended stay. I fantasize about spending the summer in the English countryside.
Vampire or shifter? Vampire. I’m not into shedding.
Duke or cowboy? Mr. Darcy all the way.
Beach or pool? Either, as long as it’s really warm water.
Trains, planes, or automobiles? Planes. Cold cans of soda taste better in the air for some reason.
THANKS so much for playing along! Now let’s learn more about Kate’s book:
Spells and Sandwiches by Kate Mossman
Beneath the soul of a chef, lies the heart of a witch.
Zelda Hawkins came to Manhattan to make sandwiches, not spells—but when a mysterious vampire offers free rent on her family’s old restaurant in exchange for repairing a magical mirror, Zelda’s plans are flipped like a hot grilled cheese.
With the help of a ridiculous rescue poodle, a mind-reading fire witch, a smoldering ex-boyfriend, and a hot Brooklyn hipster helping with the renovation, Zelda must use the magic she inherited from her grandmother to enter a world of witches, vampires, and fae, where masks and mirrors are only the beginning… and the stakes are higher than New York prices.
