What I’m Talking About:
A new divorcee hits thirty, blows out the candles, and wakes up in the world of her favorite teenage show, roomie included. A dream come true until her heart goes off script. Kate Robb is a new to me author with a light and fun touch to a friends-to-lovers contemporary romance.
Turning thirty is tough on some and particularly Brynn who has gone through a recent divorce and her friends forgot her birthday. So, she does what any down in her dumps gal would do and drowned herself in her favorite TV series. Only this TV series never had a solid ending when the final show wrapped up. Brynn never let this turn her off her show.
Then a mysterious birthday cake comes and she and her roommate Josh determine to celebrate with the candles lit, the wishes, and all. She wishes for her own happily ever after and the next day she wakes up in the world of her show as the heroine and discovers Josh, her roomie found his way into the bad boy’s body. They must get the show its solid ending before they can leave. Only, Brynn finds herself preferring to make time with Josh more than her teenage heartthrob hero. Will she go off script? Stay tuned!
Confession time, I was more a crime drama fan for the 80’s through the 2000‘s. I barely remember the titles of the shows this book tributes let alone any details. So, I’m going on record to say that I suspect fans of those 90’s and 2000’s shows are more the target audience than moi. In fact, I’m pretty sure there are fun easter egg moments scattered through out that will bring some squeeing. Alas, it was lost on me.
Prime Time Romance was a really light, low-key book. The romance was under developed between Brynn and Josh. It just…was there. Now, that said, I didn’t hate the book. I liked the intriguing aspect of them living inside a TV show with Brynn knowing all the ins and outs- or so she thinks until she realizes that being on the inside rather than watching from the outside shows her the town and even her favorite characters all in a new light. She’s finding herself and what/who she really wants. I liked the solid, reliable Josh who also has a story here and the wish for a happily ever after isn’t just Brynn’s, but he needs to step up his game if he wants to get the girl.
While, Prime Time Romance didn’t blow me away, I was in the mood for its light and flirty tone and moderate romance. I think others will enjoy it if they go in with the right expectations and definitely if they want a fan tribute to their fav shows.

About the Book:
Newly divorced on the eve of her thirtieth birthday, Brynn is sick of heartbreak. She thought she had found her happy ending, but now she’s living with a roommate, Josh, to afford her mortgage, and she’s trying to adjust to her new single life. At least she’s got Carson’s Cove to binge, her beloved 2000s teenage soap. The show ended unexpectantly on a cliffhanger after five seasons, and the two main characters, Sloan and Spencer, never got to declare their love for each other. The show is still perfect in Brynn’s eyes; despite all the drama that goes down, things always have a way of working out in Carson’s Cove . . . unlike her own life.
So when a birthday cake surprisingly shows up on her and Josh’s doorstep, Brynn makes a wish for the one thing she’s always wanted (but has failed to achieve herself): a happily-ever-after.
The next morning, she doesn’t wake up in her apartment. She’s in Carson’s Cove . . . and Josh is there too. Everyone seems to know them, except they’re not Brynn and Josh; they’re Sloan, the sweetheart of Carson’s Cove, and Fletch, the town’s bad boy. And to get home, they have to make Brynn’s wish come true by ensuring Sloan and Spencer, the hometown heartthrob, end up together at last. But as they spend more time together, Brynn and Josh realize that Carson’s Cove might not be as perfect as seen on television . . . especially when they start developing feelings for each other in a plot twist no one has expected. Will they stick to the script, or will real love change the story forever?
