Featured Author Q and A:
Can you tell us a little bit about your writing: What genres do you write? Do you prefer to write one genre over another?
When it comes to genres, my inner squirrel is on full display! My books fall in the funny urban fantasy, sci-fi comedy, and PNR/SFR genres primarily, although I have written literary fiction and non-fiction also. I tend to use a snarky style of dialog in fiction. My non-fiction is published under JS Netwal, and is related to meditation and self growth topics. As for my preference, I look for the sense in my core that it’s good. When a story flows and plot twists send you zinging to the next chapter, it’s the best feeling. If it’s funny, that’s near nirvana.
What inspires you to write your current book/series?
I’m currently working on a series of four non-fiction books that follow the seasons. Within each book is a daily intention, action item and a journal prompt. Often we reach points in life where choices of directions occur. These books offer ways to build your sense of which doors open toward your purpose and peace.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
Lately, the mountains have called my soul. I currently live in a tiny nest facing the ocean. It’s been an inspirational space, but I took a trip to Gatlinburg, TN last summer and the peace of the mountains both tugged and stayed with me long after returning. I am interested in astrology, and while my sun sign is water, my moon sign is an earth one. I tend to respond to nudges from the Universe. Intuition feels natural to me, so I’ve put my little haven on the market and am enjoying the hunt for the perfect mountain nook for writing, dreams, and animal companionship. I’ve not been able to have pets in my building, so making new animal friends is something I look forward to adding back into my life.
Do you use real or fictional locations in your stories?
I use fictional places with loose associations to real ones. For example, in my series The Record, Boogie Beach is a fictitious beach town that shares attributes with Daytona Beach Shores and Wilbur by the Sea. Both are near where I live, and share the flavor of Daytona Beach. In the B&D Capers series, the action happens in real Florida towns, but it’s an alien first contact sci-fi comedy, so other than that, not much is real. Oh, and there’s a ghost riding shotgun, so while feeling quite Southern, the story is several steps beyond those actual towns.
CMCon Quickies:
Long weekend or extended stay vacation? If I’ve moved, I’ll do an extended stay. If I’m still here, I’ll just drive five blocks each day to participate.
Vampire or shifter? Shifter, especially unusual ones. I’ve written pelican shifters into The Record.
Duke or cowboy? I’ll pass on both.
Beach or pool? Beach to hang, pool to swim. I have a healthy respect for rip tides.
Trains, planes, or automobiles? I enjoy driving and often take long road trips alone, but I think planes take you to exotic locales and I’m terminally curious. So if I had to pick, I’ll take a plane to a new place.
THANKS so much for playing along! Now let’s learn more about Winnie’s book:
Magical Mayhem by Winnie Winkle
Humans never knew how magic folks party. Until now.Halloween is Christmas on steroids if you’re of a magical persuasion, which isn’t my claim to fame. I’m more of an apprentice of sorts. Oh, not to be magical, that’s a born-with-it talent, but when I started waiting tables at a local pier bar, at sixteen, guess who discovered she won the world’s weirdest and most exclusive lottery? I, Cleopatra O’Keefe, am a Keeper.Which will probably kill me sooner rather than later. Now I’m fixin’ to debut as a bartender on my twenty-first birthday—which falls on Halloween—in the magical’s hidden bar, serving drinks that could kill me if they explode. Yikes. Lined up for the party are Greek gods, big scary shifters, and witches with crap attitudes. Add in a bunch of huge blue mer people with long, lethal knives and a herd of tiny fairies with murderous skills. Easy peasy, right?
Magicals barely tolerate humans, except for one speedo-clad god who has the serious hots for me. I swear, if I survive the night, it’ll be a miracle with a side of mayhem.
Good thing I’ve got a magic book and an attitude. I’ll need both.

About the Author:
Winnie Winkle is a fabulous Central Florida broad who swills bourbon, likes dogs and cats, and practices yoga, but not with any particular grace. Supporting live local music is a big deal to Winnie, so if you pass a gravestone that admonishes, ‘Go see the band and hit the tip jar’, it’s probably hers. But, since she’s not dead yet, she’ll keep penning fun stuff to rock your reading chair.
A 30-plus year Florida resident, Winnie splits her time between Daytona Beach Shores and the Mount Dora area. She prefers writing beach-side as much as she can because, if we’re baring our souls here, the ocean is a mighty muse and there’s only so much one can expect from coffee.
Winnie writes funny urban fantasy, sci fi comedy, paranormal/sci-fi romance, literary fiction with unusual elements, and grocery lists.
