What I’m Talking About:

If the screwball patrol call-outs and the bomb-building neighbor with dementia wasn’t enough, now a mysterious enemy is on the loose and seems out to end any Stone or Stone family friend in their path.  Gail Koger’s highly entertaining blend of high-octane pace and plot, tears-inducing humor, colorful characters, and sexy romancing jives together in the addictive and entertaining Deputy Gemma Stone series.

Stilettos and Outlaws is book four in the strongly connected series of stories that really should be read in order for optimal pleasure. In fact, I highly recommend that readers not attempt this one without making sure to read the prequel, Bullets and Dandelions so that the plot involving the villain and Gemma’s parents is fully realized.

Gemma and her best bud, Julie, are deputy sheriff and working from a sub-station under their long-suffering sergeant. While on patrol, they encounter the most hilarious and bizarre call-outs that the author, who was a former 9-1-1 operator assures us were God-honest patrol officer encounters.

But, not only do their day jobs offer the excitement, closer to home, someone is going after Gemma’s family members and home.  Starts when they check in on a neighbor whose hired to make bombs to use against them and now the thugs hired by the person are out to finish the job.  Gemma knows things just got real when her estranged maternal ex-CIA granddad shows up to back up the family.

Between annoying and interferring FBI and CIA, crazy animals, and kooky ciitzenry, Gemma’s got a frequent flyer membership at the local hospital and she’s terrified their enemy will go after Dante, who loves her and can’t help joining in to defend the family even while he’s on the trail of the Cochise Cowboy robber gang.

Stilettos and Outlaws ends with a big kaboom climax that was hilarious and exciting all in one.  As usual, it was completely satisfying and left me eager for the next installment.  Those who enjoy a strong dose of screwball comedy with their sizzling hot light-hearted romantic suspense should toss your loop over the Deputy Gemma Stone series.

About the Book:

My name is Gemma Stone and I’ve been a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputy for five years and nothing has prepared me for the return of the wild, wild West. A bloodthirsty outlaw gang straight out of the 1850’s is rustling cattle, robbing trains and killing people. These two-legged varmints are also linked to a dangerous enemy from my parents’ past who is determined to destroy our family.

My personal life got even more complicated. Off duty, I’m a ballroom dancer and my dad has always been supportive of my dancing, but to discover the reason why was jaw dropping. What other secrets was he hiding?

Dealing with hyperactive chickens blowing things up, an overprotective Brahma bull and Grandpa Reynolds suddenly parking his RV in our pasture makes me think Armageddon is coming to Arizona.

Law enforcement isn’t for the fainthearted. Are you crazy enough to enter my world?
