What I’m Talking About:
And Now, Back to You is the delightful follow up to one of my favorite books of 2025, First-Time Caller. Starting about a year after the conclusion of the first title, this second book in the Heartstrings series features radio station weatherman Jackson and a TV weather reporter Delilah. The pair have a park-over-the-line, leave-a-sticky-note-on-the-car-window kind of gentle rivalry. However, with a blizzard predicted to hit Maryland, the pair must work together while reporting from a remote location.
On the outside, Delilah is all sunshine and Jackson is an awkward nerd, but since the story is shared via the alternating first person POVs of the main characters, readers get to know the truths hidden within both Delilah and Jackson. Being stuck in a one-bed hotel room during a snow storm allows the characters to share those truths with one another.
While the mood of the story is light, the emotional content feels honest and at times raw. Both characters have dealt with a lot in their lives, to include abandonment by their mothers. I love how close the pair grows in a short amount of time. It’s a bit like insta-love, but with time for self-reflection and growth. There are silly jokes and fun times, but it doesn’t minimize the struggles. I love their banter and how they see one another in ways no one else does. I also love how they support one another while leaving space for life to happen.
And Now, Back to You is the type of story that will keep you warm during a snow storm. It’s found family and unconditional love.
