What I’m Talking About:
Ten years ago, Galwell the Great sacrificed himself to save the kingdom, but instead of dying, he was rescued and brought to the current day (read This Will Be Fun). He feels lost, without purpose, and hates having to be looked after. River is an assassin with the Deathrose Guild, a group sworn to rid the kingdom of villains, so when she discovers her assignment is to kill Galwell, she is confused and decides to follow him to find proof that would justify the kill.
Thessia, the newly married queen of Mythria, is tired of being a figurehead and wants a purpose. She decides to take her husband-in-name-only on a honeymoon to the neighboring kingdom of Vestriya to get away from the local media and prying eyes.
The group ends up on the same ship bound for Vestriva, and realize that something odd is going on with the Deathrose Guild. They decide that a quest is in order and get help from Thessia’s husband, Hugh, a local crime lord (and Clare’s sister) Mona the Merciless, and Celine, a report from home.
Picking up after the conclusion of This Will Be Fun, This Will Be Interesting is a delightful questing adventure filled with laughs, hard truths, and magic. It features a fun fantasy realm with tarnished heroes and a side of romance. The story is shared from the alternating third person POVs of Galwell, River, and Thessia so the reader is privy to the thoughts and feelings of each main character. Similar to the first book, This Will Be Interesting is more about discovering one’s true self and purpose rather than the actual adventure. Galwell, Thessia, River, and Celine all feel lost and unsure of their choices and life’s purpose. Thessia has been unsettled for a while, Galwell since he returned, but River’s life is in uproar when she sees that the Guild is no longer functioning as it should. Celine is in search of the truth, but realizes things are far more layered and complex.
Around the halfway mark of the story, things become dark and dismal, with the group torn apart. Each hero must navigate who they are at their core and what it means to be that person. They must figure out how they fit in the world and what is truly important. Slowly each finds their way back to their love and then the group, and together they uncover and stop the terrible secrets within the Guild.
Similar to the first book, I had a small issue during the climatic scene when one of the group discovers expanding powers that allow for a miracle. It didn’t bother me so much as confused me.
In the end, I enjoyed This Will Be Interesting. It’s an often exciting and sometimes silly adventure. I love how the authors take heroes who feel lost, give them purpose, take them to a low place before winning, and finally getting their HEAs.

About the Book:
Galwell True was the perfect hero, the legend who sacrificed himself to save the realm…only for his friends to unexpectedly resurrect him ten years later. These days, he’s feeling less “Galwell the Great” and more “Galwell the Lost.”
River Pricemark is an excellent assassin. When the Deathrose Guild, an organization known for banishing evil, tasks her with eliminating Galwell, she sees her chance to climb the ranks. So, it’s bad luck when her ambush is interrupted by Celine Hazelton, a scribesheet reporter who questions why the Guild is targeting Galwell at all. It’s worse luck that Celine is also her childhood crush.
Queen Thessia of Mythria is tired of being the damsel. She’s just married the kind and handsome King Hugh and is meant to live happily ever after—but her story feels incomplete. Upon learning Galwell, her ex, is in danger, she turns her royal honeymoon into a rescue, bringing everyone overseas to the opulent land of Vestriya.
Between underground lairs, magical grottos, horseball matches, and masquerades, Galwell must rely on his newfound questmates—including beautiful Vestriyan criminal Mona Grandhart, who seems determined to corrupt him in more ways than one. Good thing he’s set a single rule for everyone on this no romance.
But we all know how this ends, don’t we?
