Welcome to #FitReaders2026!! Felicia and I are excited to co-host this fitness-oriented group. If you have any questions about #FitReaders, you can leave them in the comment section or email me at twimom227(at)gmail(dot)com.

Most of our support is done via our Facebook Group. I post my weekly check-ins on Fridays, as it helps me be accountable. You are welcome to do your own check-in posts, check in below, in the comments, or check in with the Facebook group – whatever works for you!

I check in here every Friday, but my fitness week is Monday – Sunday. So my check-ins are always about a week behind.

Last Week (April 6 – April 12, 2026):

My kids headed back to college early Monday morning when I went to Tai Chi. I also continued with occupational therapy for my elbow and shoulder. Wednesday was my daughter’s 20th birthday (I no longer have any teenagers), but I didn’t get to see her since she’s at school. I went to see my PCP regarding my health, see the next paragraph. I also had dinner with a friend I haven’t seen in a couple years. Thursday was more OT and lunch with another friend I hadn’t seen in a couple years. On Friday, I took the train to Boston and met my girlfriend to see The Outsiders Musical. On Sunday, my husband and I attended a celebration of life luncheon for a church member who passed away.

My Health: If you’ve followed my posts for a while, you will know that I’ve struggled with weight gains over the past five years. While it’s not a lot, I have put on five to six pounds each year, and they don’t come off. I went to see my PCP to discuss my health. I told her that I’m not looking to lose lots of weight at this point, but I’m more concerned about my health down the road if things keep going the way they have been. We discussed a few small changes I can start making to my life style now that I’m post-menopause and my hormones, metabolism, etc. are vastly different that they were just five years ago. She also wanted to look at my A1C since my glucose levels have been slightly elevated the last two blood workups. She also took a look at my thyroid numbers. What we discovered is that my A1C is higher than expected, and fully in the pre-diabetic range. I’ve been doing some research using sites my provider recommends. She’s given me an option for medication (not GLP-1s) that will help my body metabolize the sugars. My immediate plan has included reducing sugars and carbs, and being more mindful of my caloric intake. I will discuss this more with my PCP in the future.

If you have any good resources for living with pre-diabetes or menu planning tools, please leave links in the comments.

Weight: I was down 1.5 pounds last week.

Goals: Being diagnosed as a pre-diabetic has helped me start getting my act together. I tracked my food six of seven days last week, to include carbs, protein, and sugar. I’ve started reading food labels and making decisions not just based on calories. I opted for a beer instead of a cocktail with extra sugar when I went out on Friday. I exercised six days last week, and moved enough to close all of my rings every day! I have a lot of travel and big events coming up, so I need to keep my momentum going. I have modified my goals slightly:

  • To move with purpose for a minimum of 10 minutes every day.
  • To track food intake to include carbs, sugars, and proteins every day.
  • To limit alcohol consumption.
  • To read a daily meditation/devotional.
  • To follow up with my PCP.

During 2026 I plan:

  • To be mindful of a healthy relationship with food. I will do this by being thoughtful of my food choices when I grocery shop, work from home, and eat out.
  • To move and be mindful. I will do this by finding ways to integrate movement and options for mental wellbeing into my life. I will set weekly or monthly goals to help me achieve a better fitness balance.
  • To remain an active member of FitReaders and support my fellow members. I will do this by actively participating in the FitReader Facebook Group and continuing to share my journey with my weekly check-in on the blog.
